They beat me
C003 I was beaten
Audio clip: I was beaten
1 Background
To save Cathy, it took 3 more songs to produce EP. Alain Barrière scraped his drawer bottoms and produced 3 songs from sketches that yesterday, before someone did (My Life, p50). They beat me is one of those three songs ...
2 Lyrics
13 stanzas of 3 lines, plus the resumption of the first stanza at the end of the song.
The first 5 stanzas are past. The next two
this. We return to the past
for the next two. The last four stanzas
are the future.
3 Music
A cheerful and lively music which easily retains, and returns you trot in the head the rest of the day. The pace relies heavily on consonants, especially the b and t beaten and w pal.
A very rapid rate of rock and roll or twist, that swings and makes me think of music as 55-60 years Be bop a lula . In his biography, Alain Barrier complains the wave pop music, but would it not forgotten that he has contributed at least once this song?
music is very cheerful in complete disagreement with the meaning dark despair of the lyrics.
four themes
justice, or rather the deep sense of injustice: They beat me / We did not deserve it / I've lied /
5 Analysis
The poet addresses himself first to They beat me, then a fellow sufferer And we beat you, before generalizing We did not deserve . This companion in misfortune is it real or imagined, a kind of double parasitic brain?
It is unclear why the poet and his companion were beaten. Authors appear nowhere blows: is there any other youth, older persons or even police? They are designated by a one more impersonal. And having been beaten, what hurts the most, they are not the moves themselves but the fact of having been wrong, just like the lie that the two companions were victims: the pain is completely legal here.
For me, CCET song is probably inspired by his youth in the school where a teacher imbecile and tyrannical reign was about to slap on the wrist (My Life, p24). Is it the author of his shots and lies? The is beating improperly and who is lying?
In this text, there are two metaphors that escape me a little, and even a lot: A path
topped with wool
In general, it is found on sheep wool ...
and
The sun goes down / is red, he is afraid for me
fear is associated with green (green with fear) then rather than the red expresses the emotion or shame. And what the sun could we be afraid? and why he would win Your faith and my candor ?
The last four stanzas 10-13, which are written in the future, I think are most interesting. Rather than directly seeking revenge on the perpetrator (or perpetrators) of strokes by applying the law of retaliation or giving him a hundredfold, the two victims prey to the Company that allows to produce such harm. This attitude implies a silent complicity of the community with the author blows. To cure the society of this disease that incubates, our poet offers put everything on the public square: the wrongs of the author blows, the cowardice of accomplices, the vices of those who know and do nothing.
And then, rather than seeking help from other people who can not be accomplices or loose, our two companions rely only on themselves, on their own strength, because the more injustice is strong, Moreover it gives its victims the strength to fight against it.
