How A Planters Wart Gets Worse

I lost

C014 J I lost
Audio clip: I lost

1 Background
1962, after his first 33 laps 25 cm Alain Barrière released a new 45-rpm EP with 4 songs. Among these, I lost .

2 Lyrics
Poem in 10 stanzas of four or one to each, all articulated in three parts:
In the first part, we have a prime topic organized around three quatrains written in the present and the imperative, followed by a stanza to I lost.
In the second part, a second theme evokes the past two quatrains.
In the third part, there is the resumption of the first theme, with the same structure and the first and third stanzas identical.
There was no actual chorus.

3 Music
A tempo very slow, with an introduction to the saxophone (?) bass and some percussion. A very light accompaniment to the strings when the voice rises in the treble. Great economy of means which provides a unique ability to put this song and specifically the human voice.

In each game, the first verse is sung in mezzo VOCC, almost spoken.
The following stanzas are sung louder and louder, climbing the high notes, according to a crescendo that ends with I lost or finish poetry started as a scream.

Unlike previous recordings, the sound quality of the recording is excellent.

4 Analysis of first degree
The author addresses to another person, unknown if it is another boy or girl. The ambiguity is sustained, without much understanding gene. Our love was beautiful, was great can be interpreted both in the context of a heterosexual couple, homosexual or that of a great friendship coupled with an accomplice at all times.

According to the second part, the two singers began singing together in the campaign, the middle of cornfields , with listeners around the peasants . Common pictures were shown as newsreels of the inter-war and the years that followed groups of singers like Ray Ventura and his college interpreting their success in the middle of the harvest.

And the duo broke up and everyone has tried his luck on his side. One has won success, and the other not ... I do not know if Alain Barrière thought of a duet in writing this particular song, but you can take the example of the duo Peter Roche / Charles Aznavour, or the latest duo Sophie Daumier / Guy Bedos, Sophie Daumier published after its separation the city and the scene tinged with bitterness a book ... The loser feels cheated and betrayed by the other. He can not stand that he talks about the other.

Here we find another way theme Life artist, song of Francis and Léo Ferré Claude, who is treated in a manner prescient:

(...) And my success that does not come
And our uncertain pittance

(...) And now you are going away
Both of us will grow old
your own, how sad

(...) An alien, a clumsy Reading
my name on a poster
tell you about my success (...)

5 Analysis second degree
Whoever loses is the one who gives up that refrain, which continues to struggle. I do not understand why our poet has given up so quickly, all because success came quickly to the next. As long as we do not give up, success can still happen, without warning, turning a new song. For example, in the case of Alain Barrier, the unexpected success of You go is particularly exemplary.

In this context, there is the case with many artists, who have been totally ignored in their lifetime, before being extolled after their disappearance. Van Gogh never have sold one painting during his lifetime, and his paintings are now the most expensive in the world. Boby Lapointe has been made for less than nothing by his contemporaries, and today his rare recordings are reissued in deluxe editions. How many youth centers or neighborhood bear his name? Wegener scientist who first described the drift of continents, was overwhelmed in his lifetime by his colleagues, but his theory is now taken for granted. It often cites the case of science fiction writer Frank Herbert, who wrote the cycle Dune. This long novel, he has 6 years to write, has been successively rejected by more than 20 publishers before being accepted by a small publishing house, and then receiving the favor of critics and finally the most great rewards of discipline. If Frank Herbert had waived his book published after the first 15 refusals, he might well have sung I lost ... There are those who accept defeat immediately, and those who refuse to lie, as the sailors of the island of Sein, immediately after the call of June 18, 40, crossed the Channel and London to further align the fight.

6 Analysis of third-degree
this point of the analysis, I can only note that the poet has actually lost something he did not, so he really has not lost anything . It would be more accurate to say that he did not win ... It is not even a zero sum game, as a bet or speculation, where what one wins, others necessarily lose. So why lament for something you never had? Is that what does not have the same value as what we have? Why success would it make more sense that a failure?

To analyze this problem, back back some 25 centuries, the century of Pericles, and question Aristotle. This learned Greek, among others, the first to formalize the formal logic based solely on the true and false, and that truth has the same importance as false. This discipline, which is the basis of mathematical reasoning, and beyond any scientific reasoning, which is still a reference today. This approach is however quite reductionist and can not always give the same weight to one thing and its opposite. For example, the presence is significant, while the lack of is not, allowing in particular describe a new species from a single individual.

can retain that history deals only with success, while the failures go quietly into silence by the wayside. Take the case of the French astronomer Le Verrier. By repeating the theoretical model of the planets move made by Laplace, and by comparing the experimental data observed, the observed irregularities in the orbit of Uranus. After 20 years of calculation, Le Verrier offers a new theoretical system, incorporating an additional planets beyond Uranus, which gives model predictions more consistent with observations. This new planet, Neptune, then been directly observed at the exact location predicted by the model. Le Verrier has taken the same approach with the planet Mercury, and predicted the existence of a new planet he called Vulcan, but this planet has never been observed, because the irregularities of Mercury have a different origin . The story was chosen for the success of Le Verrier's prediction of Neptune, but not the failure of the prediction of Vulcan.

Giving equal weight to positive or negative life attitude is challenged by many esoteric currents. In these schools, the individual is constructed solely from what is experienced positively, while negative experiences do not destroy it, but actually have little significance. This is where the success éminnement positive experience is important. In this context, there is positive that what counts and what is negative does not exist. Besides memory eliminates negative memories more easily (unless they have been extremely traumatic) than positive memories.

And then, as a counterweight, there is the romantic tradition that has developed since the eighteenth century in various artistic movements. In romance, there is great importance given to feelings, with priority given to climate nocturnal becoming darker if negative: loneliness, starting where we left his family, the rejection of others, the loss of a loved walking into madness ... We cry a lot, you lament with no limits on yourself. In this exacerbation of the feelings, the romantic Research suffering as the hedonistic follow the steepest slope fun. Goethe's first novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther , magnifies the pursuit of impossible love and apology from despair and ends in suicide. In general, when you told someone I lost is on a confidential tone, low tone, but we will not shout from the rooftops. But before committing suicide with a bullet in the head, Werther might well have shouted I lost! Placed in this context, the song of Alain Barrière falls entirely in the course of European Romantic literature, with many classic themes of loneliness research Sheet me alone / I need to be alone , an attraction to the macabre death I want to mourn , the introspection Retrace my steps, the irrevocable end of things Finish poetry blind fate and inflexible Luck waiting, see / She turns back ...
